Knowing how to check a transaction on a block explorer saves a lot of worry. Instead of wondering whether a payment went through, you can look it up yourself in seconds. This guide explains what a transaction hash is, where to find it, which explorer to use for each network, and how to read what you see.
What is a TXID?
Every blockchain transaction has a unique identifier, called a TXID, transaction hash or, on Solana, a signature. It is a long string of letters and numbers, for example 64 hexadecimal characters on Bitcoin, or a 0x-prefixed hash on Ethereum. Paste it into the right explorer and you see the full public record of that transaction.
Where to find your TXID
- Self-custody wallets: open the transaction in your history. There is usually a "View on explorer" button or a copy icon next to the hash.
- Exchanges: look in the withdrawal history. The TXID often appears only after the exchange has actually broadcast the transaction, so a "processing" withdrawal may not have one yet.
- ThinSwap: our outgoing transaction hash is shown on your order page once your coins are sent.
Which explorer for which network
| Network | Explorer |
|---|---|
| Bitcoin | mempool.space |
| Ethereum (ETH, ERC20) | etherscan.io |
| BNB Chain (BEP20) | bscscan.com |
| TRON (TRX, TRC20) | tronscan.org |
| Solana (SOL, SPL) | solscan.io |
| XRP Ledger | xrpscan.com |
| Monero | xmrchain.net |
| Arbitrum | arbiscan.io |
| Base | basescan.org |
| Polygon | polygonscan.com |
Most explorers also let you search by address or block number, which is handy when you have lost a hash but know the receiving address. Searching your own address shows its full history, newest first.
Using the wrong explorer is the most common reason for "transaction not found". A USDT TRC20 hash will never appear on Etherscan, and an Arbitrum hash will not appear on Ethereum mainnet, even though both start with 0x.
How to read the result
Status
Look for words like Success, Confirmed or Finalized. On Bitcoin, an unconfirmed transaction is still waiting in the mempool. On Ethereum and TRON, a transaction can also show Failed or reverted, which usually means it ran out of gas or energy. The network fee is still spent, but the tokens did not move.
Confirmations
This is how many blocks have been added since yours. More confirmations mean it is harder to reverse. Different services wait for different numbers, as explained in how many confirmations BTC, ETH and TRON need.
From, to and amount
Check that the destination matches the address you intended and that the amount is what you expected. On Bitcoin, a transaction often has several outputs, one of which is change going back to the sender.
Token transfers
For stablecoins this is the key detail. When you send USDT on Ethereum or TRON, the transaction itself goes to the token contract, and the main "value" field may show zero. The real movement is listed under the token transfers section on Etherscan or Tronscan. Look there for the recipient and the USDT amount. The how to send USDT guide covers the sending side.
Pending or not found
- Pending on Bitcoin: the fee may be low for current mempool demand. Many wallets let you bump it with Replace-By-Fee.
- Not found anywhere: the transaction may not have been broadcast yet, or you are on the wrong explorer or network.
- Failed: the coins are still in the sending wallet, minus the fee. You can try again with enough gas or energy.
A few safety habits
- Type the explorer address yourself or use a bookmark. Fake lookalike sites exist.
- An explorer never needs your seed phrase or private key. Anyone asking for it is trying to steal funds.
- Remember that explorers are public: sharing a TXID reveals the addresses involved.
Monero is different
A Monero explorer can confirm that a transaction exists and show its confirmations, but it cannot display amounts or addresses. That is Monero’s privacy by design. To verify an XMR payment, rely on your wallet.
Checking a ThinSwap order
Your order page shows the status: Deposit, Confirming, Sending, Completed. When we send your coins, our outgoing transaction hash appears there, so you can open it in the matching explorer and watch it confirm. Most swaps, such as BTC to USDT, ETH to USDT or USDT TRC20 to USDT ERC20, usually finish within 5–30 minutes.
If you sent your deposit but the order does not show it, copy your TXID from your wallet or exchange and paste it on the order page. Remember that the deposit must be the exact amount on the stated network, since the decimals identify your order.
Once your coins have landed, you can put them to use with gift cards you pay for with crypto.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my USDT transaction show a value of 0?
Token transfers are calls to the token contract, so the native value field is often zero. Open the token transfers section on Etherscan or Tronscan to see the USDT amount.
Why does the explorer say transaction not found?
Usually the hash is on a different network than the explorer you opened, or the transaction has not been broadcast yet. Match the explorer to the network you used.
Where do I find the hash of the coins ThinSwap sent me?
It is shown on your order page once the order reaches the Sending stage. Copy it into the explorer for the network you are receiving on.
