TRC20 is the technical standard for fungible tokens on the Tron blockchain. It is modelled on Ethereum’s ERC20, so tokens share the same basic functions — balance, transfer, approval — but run on Tron’s network instead of Ethereum’s.
What does TRC20 mean for USDT?
“USDT TRC20” is Tether issued on Tron. One USDT TRC20 is worth the same as one USDT ERC20; only the blockchain it moves on is different. TRC20 became popular for USDT because transfers are fast and usually much cheaper than on Ethereum.
TRC20 addresses
Tron addresses start with a capital T and are 34 characters long, for example TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t (the USDT contract itself). If an address starts with 0x, it is not a TRC20 address.
TRC20 fees
Fees on Tron are paid in TRX through two resources, bandwidth and energy. Token transfers consume energy; if you have none staked, the network burns TRX to cover it. In practice a USDT TRC20 transfer costs a few TRX — often around 1–3 USD — and can be close to free if you stake TRX for energy.
How fast is TRC20?
Tron produces a block roughly every 3 seconds, so transfers usually appear within a minute. Exchanges may wait for more confirmations before crediting.
